This magazine has beautiful layout strategies and here is one that caught my eye:

Love this simple and effect layout in Bon Appetit.

As a way to recharge my creative output and challenge myself, I decided to recreate this page layout just for fun. There are a couple of things I learned from picking this apart.

I tried to find the typeface that is the title Table Talk.. Could.not.find.it! and then I realized it is stretched. If you look at the original from B.A then it has an odd look in the “a”. The best way to get the height was to go 150% more than the original x-height.
I have not seen designers use a lighter weight font just for the word “and” in the top text boxes. It gives some variety in the text and makes the eye focus more on the other words. Nice.
The copy is playful and yet it looks like a serious layout. When you actually begin to read the sentences they are fun. Love it!
